During Tactical Field Care, rescuers are able to take more time to assess patients and provide necessary treatments, including the management of airway obstructions. Since choking directly affects breathing, it’s crucial to effectively clear the airway to restore adequate ventilation and oxygenation. Proper airway management could involve techniques such as back blows or abdominal thrusts, as well as positioning to facilitate airflow.

In contrast, the Care Under Fire phase focuses on life-threatening issues while still in a dangerous environment, typically prioritizing rapid evacuation over comprehensive airway management. Combat Casualty Assessment involves initial assessments and determining the extent of injuries but does not provide the opportunity for in-depth care. Finally, Evacuation Care comes into play when the casualty has already been stabilized for transport, which means management should have ideally begun prior to this phase. Therefore, addressing choking specifically fits best within Tactical Field Care, as it allows for a more thorough and safe approach to airway management
